Speaking to IQNA on the occasion of the World Hijab Day, Ibtisam Muhammad Najm said Hijab signifies Haya (inherent sense of modesty), dignity, and reverence and bears witness to ethics and perception.

She said Hijab is in the interest of women, bringing to them security and freedom.

The woman’s Fitrat necessitates Hijab and it is good for her and for the society, she stated, adding that it helps her remain steadfast in the face of hardships and enhance her capabilities for building a healthy society.

Hijab also helps women move toward perfection and closeness to God, according to the scholar.

She said another reason for Hijab is ensuring Haya, chastity and the society’s security, as Imam Sadiq (AS) said that whoever has no Haya has no faith.

Also, Imam Baqir (AS) has said that Haya and faith are companions and when one of them leaves, so will the other, she said.

Citing Verse 26 of Surah Al-Araf, “Children of Adam, We have given you clothing to cover your private parts and for beauty, but the robe of piety is the best. Thus is the guidance of God so that you may take heed,” Najm said Hijab is a manifestation of faith and Islamic identity.

Observing Hijab is Wajib (obligatory) in Islam and this has been explained the Quran, she stressed, adding that anyone who denies it as denied the Quran.
